There is a never-ending debate when it comes to the topic of lager or beer – which one is better?
Some people swear by lagers, while others prefer the taste of beer. There are pros and cons to both drinks, but at the end of the day it really comes down to personal preference.
In this blog post, we will discuss the differences between lager and beer, as well as give our opinion on which one is better.
We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
What is the difference between lager and beer?
Lagers are brewed at lower temperatures and for a longer period of time than beer, which gives them a crisp and clean taste. They are also typically lighter in colour than beer.
In contrast, beer undergoes brewing at elevated temperatures for a shorter duration, yielding a robust beverage with intricate flavors. The spectrum of beers spans from light to dark hues, dictated by the selection of malt employed in the brewing process.
So, which one is better?
At the end of the day, it really comes down to personal preference. Some people prefer the crisp taste of lager, while others find beer to be more flavourful.
If you are undecided, we recommend trying both and seeing which one you like better.
Here are some lagers recommend and ones we are serving at The Mitre in Richmond that you can try:
Estrella Galicia Especial
This is a bright golden beer produced from a selection of malts and especially bitter hops. The boiling, fermentation and maturation process takes more than 20 days, what provides this beer a pleasant and characteristic hoppy flavour.
Peroni Nastro Azzurro
Brewed in Italy, Peroni Nastro Azzurro is a classic lager that has been enjoyed by beer lovers for generations. It is light, refreshing and perfect for any occasion.
Here are some beers we also recommend:
Session Bitter
Unfine. A moreish, full flavoured beer. On the darker side than the norm. Kentish Goldings, Fuggle and Northdown hops combine to give a spicy and slightly fruity finish.
Landlord House Ale
The drinkers’ favourite, a 4.3% classic pale ale with a complex citrus and hoppy aroma. A recent survey revealed that Landlord has the highest proportion of drinkers who call it their favourite ale.
And it has won more awards than any other beer, winning both CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain and the Brewing Industry Challenge Cup four times. The beer is 4.1% ABV in bottles.
Is there a better time to drink a lager compared to a beer?
It is said that lagers are best enjoyed cold, straight out of the fridge. This is because the colder temperature helps to accentuate the crisp taste of the drink.
Beer, on the other hand, is often served at cellar temperature, which is around 12-14 degrees Celsius. This allows the full flavour of the beer to come through.
So, there you have it – a brief guide to lager and beer. We hope this has helped you decide which one you prefer.
Cheers!
